How to check if a pump.fun dev sold
"Did the dev sell?" is one of the first questions people ask about a pump.fun token. The answer is public: every buy and sell by the creator's address is recorded on Solana. This guide explains who the "dev" actually is on pump.fun, how to check the creator's trades yourself, what the BotSharper token sheet shows, and where the creator view stops being informative.
Who the "dev" is on pump.fun
On pump.fun there is usually no development team in the usual sense. The "dev" is the address that created the token. A few points matter when you look at it:
- The creator can buy at birth. The first purchase can be made in the very transaction that creates the token, before anyone else can trade.
- The creator address is not always the signer. As BloFin Academy notes in its guide on creator wallets, the creator address is a value chosen when the coin is made and can differ from the wallet that signed the creation.
- One operator, several wallets. A creator can buy with other wallets, or move tokens to them, and sell from there. The creator address only shows part of the picture.
Why traders watch the creator
The creator is the one participant who was certainly there before everyone else. What that address does with its tokens is the most direct trace of its intentions on that token. A creator who bought at birth and has already sold everything is a different situation from one who still holds. A creator with a history of quick exits on earlier tokens is also worth knowing about. None of this predicts the price, but it tells you who you are trading against.
How to check it manually
- Find the creator address. The pump.fun token page shows who created the coin. On Solscan, the oldest transaction of the mint shows the creation and the addresses involved.
- Open the creator address on Solscan. Go to its trading activity and filter on the token's mint address.
- Add up buys and sells. List every buy and every sell of that token by that address, with the SOL amounts. The creation-transaction buy counts as a buy.
- Check transfers separately. In the transfers tab, look for the token leaving the creator address without a sale. A transfer to another wallet is not a sell, but that wallet may sell later.
- Look at earlier launches. The same creator address may have created other tokens. Their history tells you how this address usually behaves.
Done by hand, steps 4 and 5 take the longest, because you have to follow each destination wallet one by one.
What the BotSharper token sheet shows about the creator
The token check page describes the creator line as "What the address that created the token bought, then sold, since birth." On the sheet it appears as one line, in SOL: the amount bought and the amount sold. Next to it you get the launch context:
- Buyers in the birth block (excluding creator), in the first second and in the first 10 seconds.
- Share of the 5 largest buyers (first 5 minutes).
- Migration to PumpSwap, with its date, or "not observed".
- Buyers and sellers observed, buy volume observed, and last activity observed.
The site says the sheet is updated every hour. The free Telegram bot @BotSharperBot works from a message: the site says "send any Solana address".
If you want to know how the creator address itself has traded, paste it in the wallet report. If it has enough closed positions to be ranked, you will see its percentile among measured operators. If it does not, the report says it is not in the report, which on its own means nothing.
What "dev sold" does and does not tell you
- Only the creator address is covered. Tokens moved to another wallet and sold there are not sales by the creator address. A "0 sold" line is not proof that the creator's side never sold.
- Selling part is not leaving. A creator can sell some tokens and keep the rest. Compare the bought and sold amounts rather than reading "sold" as a yes or no.
- Identity is unknown. BotSharper's limits page states: "We do not know who is behind an address. One person may hold several; one address may be run by a program or by a group."
- Born before observation. If the token was created before BotSharper started observing it, the sheet shows "before our observation started" and does not display the creator line, rather than show a partial figure.
- It is the past. The sheet's own note: "This describes what already happened on this token in our data. It is neither a forecast nor advice."
Limits and method
BotSharper holds no funds, no keys and no orders, and recommends no asset. How the data is rebuilt and checked every night is on the Method page. What the measure cannot see is listed on What we don't know.
FAQ
How do I find the dev wallet of a pump.fun token?
The token's pump.fun page shows the creator, and the oldest transaction of the mint on Solscan shows the creation. Keep in mind that one operator can use several wallets around the same launch.
Does "creator sold" on BotSharper include tokens moved to other wallets?
No. The line describes what the address that created the token bought and sold. Tokens transferred elsewhere and sold from another wallet are not sales by that address.
Is a dev who sold a reason to sell?
BotSharper does not answer that question and gives no advice. It shows what the creator address did. What you do with that fact is your decision.
